Bridging the Gap is a nationally recognized program developed by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program (CCHCP), which has been involved at the forefront of the medical interpreter industry for the past 30 years. Horizon Language Services is proud to partner with CCHCP in providing medical interpreter training of excellence in the Atlanta area, lead by a certified medical interpreter.
Upcoming Class Information

With HLS, classes are carried out in a small interactive group setting. Questions will not go unanswered and there will be multiple practice opportunities.

This class will cover the 40 hour Bridging the Gap curriculum.
- Basic interpreting skills.
- Code of Ethics.
- Integrated medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Information on health care systems.
- Culture in interpreting.
- Communication skills for advocacy.
- Professional development.
Additionally HLS provides:
- In-class interpreting practice
- Language coaching for your specific language pair
Upon successful completion of the program you will be awarded a highly reputable certificate in the field.

Application Process

Admission requirements
Minimum age and education
Participants must be 18 years or older and have a high school degree or the equivalent. Proof of high school graduation or GED, etc. is required.
Proof of U.S. address
Participants must reside within the U.S. and must provide proof, such as a valid driver’s license or a recent utility bill.
Proof of language proficiency
Participants must be bilingual in English and at least one other language, and proof of proficiency in both languages is required to enroll in the class. Proof of proficiency can be copies of any one of the following documents:
- High school diploma or equivalent, or university/college degree from a school using the assessed language(s).
- State or federal court interpreter certification.
- Oral language exam results with scores equivalent to ACTFL Advanced Mid-level or ILR Level 2.
*If an applicant does not have any prior proof of language proficiency, a satisfactory speaking and listening language assessment will be required prior to admission into the program. This will be scheduled through HLS upon submission of all other requirements and initial deposit.
Deadlines
All deadlines must be met as outlined to qualify for the lowest possible rate. Your place in class is not guaranteed until all requirements are fulfilled, registration completed and tuition submitted.
Early Bird Admission
Application and $100 deposit are due by Friday, November 14th.If a language proficiency assessment is needed, it must be completed by Wednesday, November 28th.Tuition:
A) Four (4) payments of $175 (total: $700); or
B) One payment of $675.
Payment must be made, or started, within three (3) weeks from acceptance email.
Standard Admission
Application and $100 deposit are due by Friday, December 12th.If a language proficiency assessment is needed, it must be completed by Wednesday, December 19th.Tuition:
A) Four (4) payments of $200 (total: $800); or
B) One payment of $775.
Payment must be made, or started, within two (2) weeks from acceptance email.
Late Admission
- Any application submitted on Saturday, December 13th, or later will be considered late.
- Language limitations may apply during the late admission period due to material availability, and must be preapproved. Please email contact@horizonlanguageservices.com.
- If a language proficiency assessment is needed it must be completed promptly.
- Limited slots will be available and they will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
- Tuition:
A) Two (2) payments of $450 (total: $900); or
B) One payment of $875.
